No, it never sold. About 5 weeks on the market in, I dropped my price from a lofty $1200 to $1000, then down to $900, finally $800. The most someone offered was $700. I could part out the interior for $700 and still have a runner to drive to the scrap yard. No thanks. So, I’ve pulled it from Facebook and Craigslist.
I’ve been driving it the last few days. Here’s a summary of what I know it needs for sure:
-Control arm bushing. They are press fit so I ordered new arms that have bushings and ball joints installed.
-Sway bar end links and bushings- I’ll do it the same time as control arms.
-CEL is on for SAI pump. I’ll delete it and use a chip to delete the circuit.
-Interior needs a deep cleaning... still. Yeah, I haven’t done that yet. I honest to God forgot I owned this car for a few weeks there since it was parked down the street... Oops.
-Seat rail guide needs out back on- the seat rocks in the bracket right now. Bugs me a bit but it’s fine.
-Reconnect occupancy sensor so the airbag light turns off
-Shift bushing- the shift box needs dropped for this but it’s above the catalytic converter so I’ll do it th e same time as
-Exhaust- sounds rattl y and loud as hell right now
-Fix trunk latch- unknown issue. The trunk light kept staying on forever as a result, draining the battery. I just unp lugged the lamp so it’s no longer an issue.
And a few other odds and ends. Now, what have I done?
-New axle (stub axle had broken bolts, like they’d been overtorqued)
-New tires
-Replaced fuel pump
-Removed crap window tint and stickers last night
-Vaccuumed interior out. I really need to clean it better.
Also needed is rust control. If I keep this long term I intend to patch or fill the rusted rockers and clean up rust spots. Guess this is how I learn paint.
Having put about 300 miles on it this week, I have discovered what the car is good at:
1. Burnouts
2 That’s it

If it lives down the street taking the best offer sounds great. If it didn’t sell at the asking price, will adding parts gain any value? I usually give my old beaters to a young family member. It’s better than to take a crap selling price.

“I could part out the interior for $700 and still have a runner to drive to the scrap yard.”
I mean if you were willing to take 800, is all that time really worth a whole 100 dollars for you to not accept 700?

Nah, I’m not looking to sell it anymore. It was always going to be a quick flip or fix up and daily since I bought it cheap and broken. My little brother will need a car in the near future though, so I may sell it to him if I get bored. If I took $700 I would lose money one it.

It's about the PRINCIPLE.

Not to mention the number of individual transactions it could take to amass that 700, versus just letting go of the car for one simple transaction. But you know... You get to meet new people so that's a plus except people are horrible

While that first point may be true, I’ve also sold $300+ in spare Mk3 parts I had stowed away this wee k. So, fewer transactions than you'd think. People love to waste money on parts for these cars.

I like how literal most people on Oppo live up to their screennames.
....hmmmmm.......hold that thought.

eBay is where my BIL exploits the desperate. Very lucrative.

I know! I made $300 on just gauge clusters and turn signal stalks. I'm hitting some yards this weekend to get more stuff to sell and because my cars need stuff

Doubling down was buying the Jetta in the first place. This is more like tripling or quadrupling down honestly.

Makes sense.. It was hard to part with my 86 scirocco. The best deep snow car I’ve had. The dasher and rabbits were easy to scrap. Now I’m a boring truck guy. Wife has one also.
